Our Methodology
How we approach every watch
Every watch that arrives at Naga Kala begins in the same place: an unhurried visual and mechanical assessment, after which we produce a written condition note. This document describes what we found, what the watch needs, and — if there are optional decisions to be made, such as whether to clean a dial or preserve its aged surface — what those choices involve.
Only after the owner has reviewed the note and agreed to the scope do we proceed. This applies equally to a standard service and to a lengthy vintage restoration. The approach takes more time upfront, but it means there are no misunderstandings and no changes to the bill that weren't expected.
After completion, each movement is tested on a timing machine and the results are recorded. The service record travels with the watch, forming a documentation trail that serves the owner going forward.

Service 01
Routine Maintenance Service

A gentle maintenance service for a watch that is running well and whose owner prefers to care for it before problems develop. The movement is disassembled, cleaned, oiled with calibre-appropriate lubricants, and reassembled. A timing check establishes how the watch is keeping time across multiple positions.
We share a clear written note on the watch's condition and never suggest additional work unless there is a genuine reason. A service assurance covers the work completed. Turnaround is typically a few days.

Service 02
Dial Cleaning & Hand Refresh

A careful cosmetic service for watches whose movements run well but whose faces have dulled or whose hands have lost their finish. The dial is cleaned where it is safe to do so — not all dials are candidates for cleaning, and we assess each one individually before making a recommendation.
We discuss with the owner whether to preserve an aged look or to refresh the dial's appearance. Many vintage owners find that a light surface clean without changing the character of the dial suits them well. Costs and any parts required are agreed in full before work begins.

Service 03
In-Depth Vintage Restoration

A comprehensive restoration for vintage watches that require substantial attention — movement rebuilding, worn part replacement, and the careful conservation of original features. The work aims to return a timepiece to dependable function while honouring the history and patina that give it character.
Recommended for collectible, inherited, or otherwise significant pieces. Every restoration begins with an unhurried assessment and a written plan that is discussed and agreed with the owner before any work starts. Completion is at the measured pace fine work calls for — we do not rush this.

Written assessment before work
No service begins without a written condition note reviewed and agreed by the owner.
Timing machine verification
Every movement is measured on a Witschi or equivalent timing device after completion. Results are documented.
Secure storage during work
All watches in the workshop are logged and stored securely. Responsibility is tracked from receipt to return.
Post-service assurance
All completed work carries a service assurance. Issues related to the work performed are addressed without debate.
Calibre-appropriate lubricants
Different movements and components require different oils. We use calibre-specific lubricants rather than a single-product approach.
No work without agreement
If additional work becomes apparent during servicing, we stop and discuss it with the owner before proceeding.
